Our 1970’s whole home remodel in Northwest Hills has been selected to be on the 2025 Austin NARI home tour this fall!

When our clients first came to us, they had been proud owners of their 1970’s mid-century home for nearly two decades. Over the years, this home witnessed the growth of their family, including three energetic boys, and received thoughtful updates to the kitchen and bathrooms. As their family matured, the idea of moving surfaced, yet the unbeatable location, the timeless character of the home, and the breathtaking view held them firmly in place. Recognizing the unique value of their property, they partnered with Sarah Bullock McIntyre Architects, embraced a design that simplified the original architecture while creating the extra space the family needed.

The main floor was fully transformed with a focus on quality, efficiency, and careful reuse of existing kitchen cabinetry and layout. Raising the kitchen ceiling allowed for taller windows, increasing natural light and connecting the interior to the breathtaking Austin landscape. New floors, fixtures, cabinetry, trim, and tile gave the space a fresh yet timeless feel.

The lower floor received thoughtful updates that brighten and renew the space. New windows invite daylight, while a full refresh of the Jack and Jill bathroom—with new tile, plumbing fixtures, and hardware—brings consistency and comfort to the home. Fresh flooring and paint complete this area’s transformation.

The exterior was renewed from top to bottom: all-new windows and doors, siding, roofing, structural steel, gutters, and decking. The front façade retains its classic character, enhanced by modern details like a steel trellis entry and refined siding. The rear deck was completely rebuilt and expanded with durable Garapa wood and custom steel railings, perfect for enjoying Austin’s views for years to come.
